VISION..
VITE was established as the national institution for the training of teachers. Its goals are to:
  • uphold, in all aspects of its operation, both Vanuatu's national motto - "In God we stand" - and VITE's own motto - "Serving the nation"
  • promote spiritual, moral and cultural values that make teachers into good role models for their students and equip them to meet the current and future needs of society
  • offer training courses that are high-quality, up-to-date, and in accordance with the best practices in teacher education in the Pacific region.

A Bi-lingual Tertiary Institute..

From its inception in 1962 as a humble trainer of English primary teachers, and with Kawenu Teacher Training College as its original name, the Vanuatu Institute of Teacher Education has grown and added three more sections to its program to train French primary teachers, and secondary English and French teachers. It now attracts over 100 new students every year, and about the same number graduate at the end of a 2-year period with either a certificate or a diploma in teaching. It's status has changed from being a college to a tertiary institute.

Academic programs

The Institute currently offers the following teacher training pre-service programs :
  1. a two year Anglophone pre-service certificate course in primary teaching
  2. a two year Francophone pre-service certificate course in primary teaching
  3. a two year Anglophone pre-service diploma in education (Secondary)
  4. a two year Francophone pre-service diploma in education (Secondary)
