[30.01.06] VITE opens doors to new students,
January 2006
VITE opened its doors to a fresh intake of students, after an year of
no intake. The institute had prepared well for this new intake.
The orientation week saw students moving around the campus for
workshops, to video show rooms, into classrooms to be introduced
to their new lecturers, and to the library for brief
introductions by the librarians.
Lecturers were highly motivated as they move around the campus
to facilitate various sessions for the new students. This
motivation probably stems from the fact that 100% of these
students are first-timers, and a new standard altogether will
have to be set, without the influence of older students.
Another motivator also is probably the fact that the lecturers will
not be teaching to full capacity - there is just not a second
year cohort to teach. But lecturers will use the light load to
be involved in curriculum writing and preparation for the much
talked-about Distance and Flexible Learning mode.
