Students who enrol in the Diploma of Education (Secondary)
programme, must meet the entry requirements for following a
first-year degree course (100 level) at the University of the South
Pacific, and have a strong academic background in both of the
subjects in which she/he will be specializing for junior secondary
school teaching. The combinations of subjects to be offered in 2005
are Mathematics with Science, English with Social Science, and
English with French.
Specifically, candidates for the 2005-2006 programme must meet one of the following criteria:

- passes at Foundation level in 7 courses that relate to the proposed subject combination
- passes at Foundation level in 6 or fewer courses, but currently doing the balance of Foundation units that will take them up to an
aggregate of 7 by the end of 2001
- minimum of three New Zealand Bursary passes at Grade C in relevant subjects
- New Zealand Bursary passes in one or two relevant subjects at Grade C, but passes in (or current study to obtain) sufficient
Foundation or 100 level courses in relevant subjects
- currently doing New Bursary (Year 13) at Malapoa or
Matevulu, with good results at PSSC level (normally an aggregate of 13 or
less, calculated by taking English plus best three subjects)
- already holding some tertiary-level diploma
qualifications, e.g passes in 4 or more untrained teachers currently working in Junior
Secondary Schools who have obtained Bursary, Foundation or tertiary-level
qualifications in relevant subjects.
Some applicants for French or English may be required to pass a
minimum proficiency test or to attend an interview to assess their
competence in that language.
