• Application is open:
  - to candidates having followed the DAEU or its equivalent
  - to confirmed candidates of the year 12 diploma to VITE, and who have had at least 3 years teaching experience,
  - to experienced temporary teachers.
  
• Entry to VITE is conditional upon the performance in the language of instruction at the national examination, knowledge of the discipline, and after unanimous agreement by the selection committee.
  
• On request, a candidate may be accepted into the second year if there is sufficient evidence of satisfactory knowledge of the discipline (examination of DAEU + at least 1 year in university) and after unanimous agreement by the selection committee.
  
• At the request of the Ministry of Education, a candidate may enter the first year on full-time in-service training.

METHOD OF RECRUITMENT

The dates of opening and closure of application to VITE are announced on Radio Vanuatu and by postings in the Provincial Offices about the middle of the year.

In order to receive an application form, and to be filled and returned as soon as possible, accompanied by the photocopies of the relevant certificates of the examinations and the names of the referees. No application will be accepted after the closing date.

The selection is done by a team of trainers of VITE, and prospective candidates will be asked  to present themselves for written tests and oral interviews at VITE. The names of successful candidates are announced on radio Vanuatu at the beginning of December.

The tests of the courses are evaluated on the basis of total of 200 points:

Literature section: French - writing: 60 points English - writing: 40 points English - oral examination: 20 points Social science: 40 points Interview: 40 points	Science section: Mathematics: 40 points Physical sciences: 40 points Earth and life sciences: 40 points French - writing: 40 points Interview: 40 points
